Family Ties

We visit Syracuse every year - it's Scott's hometown and his mother still lives here. Now, we have another family tie to the area - my second cousin, Lily, and her husband, Scott (yes, another Scott), moved here last year after they got married in October.

We haven't seen Lily since my sister's wedding in 1997, about the time Erica was born. And the time before that was at mine and Scott's wedding in 1992, when she was still a little girl.

She's a beautiful woman now.
Cousins

There's a story behind Lily and our wedding - she happened to catch my bouquet. And Scott's cousin, Ryan (about 12 at the time), caught the garter. Our photographer wanted little Lily to sit on Ryan's lap and, well, she got quite upset. It wasn't quite appropriate, but it's something we all remember from the wedding. Lily recounted her perspective of that event with us today, how she just wanted my bouquet because of the flowers and some "icky" (maybe she used the word greasy or sleazy - she didn't realize he was a relation!) 16 year old boy caught the garter and she not happy about having to interact with him. We all had a laugh, reminiscing about that scene today.

We enjoyed brunch at the French Bistro, L'Adour, in downtown Syracuse.

I had the Croque Monsieur

Lily had the Eggs Meurette (poached eggs topped with bacon and red wine sauce - to die for)

We enjoyed getting to know Lily's husband, Scott:

(I learned that Scott and I have something in common - we both sang in a capella groups in college - I thought that was cool)

And their friend, Erika, who was visiting for the weekend:

After brunch, we walked back to Lily and Scott's hip, loft-like apartment to hang out and play some Rock Band.

We had a great visit, and hope to reunite when we visit the area in the future. We certainly won't let another 14 years pass again....
