Something Old, Something New to Scavenge

Just when I thought I didn't have the photos for this week's photo scavenger hunt, I got a little creative and I dug into my archive.

Here's a doughy smile:

I made Chinese Dumplings today and arranged a rope of wrapper dough into a smile.

Stand Alone:

Caesar, our horse, standing in the cross ties at the stable.

Rusty or Something Old:

The scroll of my violin - it is an antique French violin, made by Amati Mangenot around 1930.

Artificial:

I went into my archives for this one - some silk flowers I have in my office at work.

Repeating Pattern:

A belated good luck symbol for Chinese New Year. Taken with the Fisheye attachment of the Olloclip on my iPhone. Chinese New Year was about a week ago, but we're still celebrating a little here with traditional Chinese food.

I had a fun time finding this week's items - next week's items: Strike a Pose, Footwear, Hobby, Shiny and Color Me Green.

The 50mm Prime

More photography goodies arrived today, a 50mm f1.8 prime lens, a lovely gift from my friend, Mark, who upgraded to the newer version of this lens.



The lens is in perfect condition and even has a haze filter.

I played with it a bit this afternoon, and discovered that it is sharpest at f2.2, two stops from wide open. This is pretty common for wide aperture lenses.

I like the shallow depth of field and resulting bokeh.




The paper cranes are extras from a holiday tree our friends won at the recent Festival of Trees. They are beautiful origami cranes and will look great on our tree.

Team Up Thursday - Repetition

I chose this week's theme, and lucky Lee, she's on the Cape where the daisies, the rocks and the ocean ripples all repeat in their own way.

Mine is the standard chain link fence. Recently painted, it shines brightly (actually, blinding in the sun).

Rows of Herbs

My annual trip to the garden center to buy herbs.



I purchased Rosemary, Italian Parsley, Greek Oregano and Sweet Basil. All except the basil has been planted outside. Basil prefers warm night temperatures (above 50degF), so it will wait inside.

Wednesday Morning - Car Wash and Sunlit Repetition

I originally planned to post pictures from this morning's trip to the car wash. It was my third trip, as my previous two trips had been aborted due to the money takers not accepting credit cards or $20 bills. As the trite saying goes, the 3rd time was the charm - I had the suitable monetary denomination and as a result, the car was [somewhat] cleaned of the salt and grime of winter.

And after writing that paragraph, I have decided to post pictures of the car wash because I expended all that energy writing.






And today's other photographic contribution - the vertical blinds in my office, just as I arrived to work. As my office really doesn't get direct sunlight (situated in a recessed corner of the oddly shaped building), I am always amazed when I see sunlight filtering through the blinds. Turns out the sun was coming through a window in the main entrance foyer, then through the front door, and into my window. The repetition caught my eye, so I took a picture. (Yes, I take my camera with me to work every day - you never know when you might need it)
