Wishing you a wonderful December and hoping you find peace, joy and happiness this holiday season.
November marks the end of Daylight Savings time in the US, which means earlier sunsets. Many people dislike the earlier onset of darkness, but hopefully we get to witness the spectacular skies before starting the evening's activities. Personally, I am looking forward to the brighter mornings.
This month's calendar features such a sunset.
Photography captures a specific point in time that can not be replicated. Soon after I shot this, a cluster of high voltage towers and power lines were erected in the background field. This scene, with its empty expanse of sky, can never be captured again. I remind myself of this whenever I'm out with my camera and find myself uninspired.
The same analogy applies to each day, each passing minute - it can't be replicated - so cherish it, embrace the good with the bad and be grateful of it. I continue to remind myself of this, fitting for the month of Thanksgiving and Gratitude.

The unique fact about this photo - it was taken with my iPhone 4s a year ago. I am constantly amazed by the high quality photos I get out of my camera phone, so much so, that for "all purpose" photography, I prefer its use over my big DSLR.
The change of season and associated weather fluxes often gives us these brilliant sunrises. The crimson and magenta quickly fade as the sun climbs, so you have to enjoy the colors while they last.

I hope to be back to a regular blogging schedule now that the kids are back in school. Between various projects, sending my firstborn off to college, increasing my running mileage and general summer "laziness", I've been ignoring the blog. I'm currently working the backlog of Kauai photos and a yoga studio shoot, so will have those to share soon.

As I type this up, the 2nd full moon for July is looming, so I think it is appropriate (and totally serendipitous) that the upcoming desktop calendar features a full moon. Two full moons in one month is called the Blue Moon.

May is going to be a crazy month - Prom, Graduation and Birthdays. I hope your May is less hectic!
Nothing smells like spring more than the fragrant Lilac. Lilacs remind me of my childhood, growing up in Massachusetts. There they tend to bloom and peak towards mid-end May, right around my birthday. Here in Central Illinois, they arrive a month earlier.
For this month I have two versions to choose from.
The smaller bloomed Korean lilac (Miss Kim) grows at the corner of my house:

I'm writing this as the snow falls outside my window, a great way to end the weekend. We don't have to leave the house, the neighbors are outside building snowmen and shoveling their driveways, giving us that rare opportunity for some winter interaction. Earlier, I thoroughly enjoyed a run through the neighborhood trails and parks, all covered in white.
So, it seems appropriate that this month's free calendar download features a snow scene.
I took the photo last year, amidst one of the coldest and snowiest winters I've experienced in our 12 years living here. While I don't wish for a repeat of all that snow, I am happy we are getting some of the white stuff today.

We haven't seen any appreciable snow this season, quite the contrast from this time last year. I kind of miss that white fluffy stuff, and I'll have to settle for a virtual snow scene on my desktop instead. If you want to try your hand at creating your own photo calendar, check out this tutorial.
