Horse Wednesday - Sleepy Foal

Last week, a new foal was born at the barn where we board our horse. It is amazing to see these young babies and we are blessed by his arrival.

He was sleeping, then his mom nudged him in the tush and he sat up for a bit.
Too Sleepy to Stand

I think he was just too tired, because a few moments later, he went back to sleep.
Sweet Dreams
Maybe he's also a little hungry? Or dreaming.....

My daughter told his name, but of course I've forgotten already. Each horse is given a long official name, but that's not what they are called. For example, our horse's official name is "Loves Fortune Cookie", but of course, we call him Caesar. I have no idea why this is, but I'm sure it has to do with their blood lines and sires / mares. When a horse is registered, the official name is used.

If you wish to participate in Horse Wednesday, please use the linky tool. Have a great Wednesday!

Babies are just the best & most entertaining! At our we have one due to arrive late next month - may be a very large warmblood baby too. Those official names do get tricky with the sire/mare bloodlines. My daughter's favorite at her barn (& who she rides most often) is Bold Magic - he is out of the Bold Ruler blood line (her horse is a thoroughbred off the track - but a gentle giant towards her -- but he is a big guy - about 16.2 HH).

Same with dogs... they have these long names as their registered name but then they are called something cute and fun by the pet owner. :)

He is absolutely precious, Sherry!
How fortunate you were to be able to photograph him.

It's the same with AKC dogs -- our two have three-part names that go on their papers and I can't remember them any more. Such a cute foal -- what a great capture Shirley.

That 2nd shot is priceless - curled up, slight grin, tongue sticking out. So sweet.

Thank you so much for visiting me at Tuesday Muse/ABC Wed two weeks ago. I have been taking a break or I would have come by to visit you sooner! Your comment was so interesting as I also do a series of mailboxes and yard art (and even murals, overpasses, etc) plus participate in the meme Fridays Fences here in Tucson because the place abounds with interesting decorative flair! I end up doing more man-made fun than actual nature shots. It's just the way it has worked out, and I think people enjoy seeing what I come up with.

Love this precious baby! Oh how wonderful! About the name, our purebred English Springer Spaniel was named Maid Marian IV and we called her Taffy--our purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback was Royal Kokhoin Huntress and we called her Penny. So, it apparently works well in the dog or the horse world! :-)
